Polyamide, commonly known as nylon, is a crystalline engineering plastic. It is a tough material with a low coefficient of friction, excellent wear resistance, and self-lubricating properties. It also has good oil and chemical resistance, making it an ideal material for mechanical applications; however, its high moisture absorption is a concern that must be considered in design. It does not contain any of the six substances restricted by the RoHS directive.
